OXMESH is an open, community-supported radio mesh network being developed across Oxford. Small low-power LoRa devices can communicate directly and relay messages through other nodes, allowing local communication that does not depend on normal mobile or Wi-Fi infrastructure.
It is a local digital commons: decentralised infrastructure built by people in the community for neighbourhood participation, experimentation, resilience and digital independence. Coverage is not universal. That is why more useful nodes, repeaters and local testers matter.
A mesh becomes more useful as more people take part, test coverage and host well-positioned nodes.

Community backbone
OXMESH is not being built by a telecom company. Its backbone is formed by small community-hosted nodes.
A repeater on a well-positioned window, roof or elevated site can help messages travel further through the city. The more useful nodes Oxford has, the stronger the network becomes.
OXMESH especially needs safe locations with height, clear surroundings and reliable power.
